LOCKDOWN LEADER: Sean MoriaRty, Quinta da Lago

From housing the homeless to sheltering NHS shift workers, hotels and resorts around the globe have been doing their bit for Taskforce-Covid. Part of the world-famous Quinta do Lago golf Resort, in Algarve, the Magnolia Hotel is no exception.

At the start of the crisis the Quinta do Lago Resort, The Algarve donated 50,000 EUR to local hospitals in Faro, Portimão and Lagos, in order to keep them in as much essential equipment as possible; everything from ventilators and CT scanners to heart rate monitors, testing kits and PPE.

The donation was part of a wider campaign called ‘Flattening the Curve’, through which more than 500,000 EUR has been raised, bound for the Algarve Biomedical Centre (ABC), the consortium leading local initiatives to contain the pandemic.

“We are very much indebted to the great work that these people are doing at our local hospitals,” said CEO Sean Moriarty. “Everyone at Quinta do Lago is committed to supporting these hospitals over the following weeks to help support them financially in their fight against COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic is something that is affecting all parts of society.”

Medical workers are also being given free coffee and breakfast every morning at the resort’s boutique café and juice bar PURE. While all leftover food from PURE and KOKO Restaurants has been donated to local welfare charities in Almancil and Quarteira.

In addition, Quinta do Lago’s latest campaign ‘100 Rooms for Healthcare Workers’ saw 100 frontline heroes and their guests gratefully snapping up rooms at their boutique Magnolia hotel for a well-earned break on a date of their choosing until the end of 2020, once travel resumes. “We hope this gesture shows our gratitude for the hard work of our healthcare heroes,” adds Moriarty. “We look forward to welcoming them very soon.”
