Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s spa is the perfect place to indulge and relax both the mind and body as Behiye Hassan discovered

It’s not often you leave behind sunshine in London to arrive to rain in Milan.

During the long car journey to Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Lake Como, we hoped the rain would stop but it only became more persistent.

The five star family owned hotel is famed for its unrivalled position upon Lake Como and offers spectacular panoramic views of both the town of Bellagio, the Riviera delle Azalee and the stunning Grigne Mountains.

However, we were disappointed to see these views were obscured with rain clouds so it seemed more than appropriate to enjoy an aromatherapy massage and hide out in the spa instead.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo’s T Spa, in association with leading skincare provider ESPA, is the ultimate place to relax and rejuvenate. Winner of the most ‘Glamourous Getaway’ at the 2016 Tatler Spa Awards, it was given a makeover as part of a five-year multi-million-pound renovation project of the hotel.

The spa’s new second building includes the 18th century Villa Emilia, additional treatment rooms and a new humid area. Suite Emilia, is ideal for those looking for a spa break as it offers exclusive private access to the spa being totally independent fro the main hotel building.

Perfect for two adults it has a gorgeous view of the lake and the Lasa marble bathroom features a steam bath, a double rainshower and an oversized Jacuzzi located in the centre of the room.

Spa suites include the Hammam Suite, housed in a luxuriously large and airy chamber with a domed ceiling made of Italian Lasa white marble featuring a full sized scrub plinth, water blade style shower, couple’s bathtub and a steam room.

While the T Spa Suite offers two hours’ privacy for couples who can choose from a choice of two massages and can also enjoy the whirlpool tub, sauna and Turkish bath with contrast shower and cascade jets.

The humid area features a Mediterranean bath, steam bath and sauna with stunning lake views in addition to the ice fountain, emotional showers and a comfortable relaxation area decorated with onyx walls.

Just opposite the new building, the original spa building now houses a Jacuzzi, the infinity pool looking out onto the lake and an outdoor relaxation lounge facing the lake.

They also offer fitness and yoga classes, enabling guests to workout whilst enjoying tranquil views of the lake. Fitness enthusiasts will revel in the peace and quiet of the gardens whilst experiencing various types of yoga.

Before our full body treatment, we were given the option of whether we wanted to feel relaxed or rejuvenated afterwards. I opted for relaxed to help forget the weather outside. Post treatment we made the most of all the facilities and left the spa at the end of the afternoon feeling pampered, relaxed and stress free.

We had also completely forgotten about the rain and when we emerged to the stunning clear blue-sky, sunshine and beautiful view of the lake and mountains it looked like Lake Como had too.

Starting from £414 (€470) per night inclusive of daily breakfast for a park view prestige room plus 10% VAT Grand Tremezzo will reopen for a new season on 9th March 2018
