The Goring welcomes a very special family member, Teddy the Shetland, this summer for a two week residency and themed afternoon teas. Start packing your saddle bag. . .

An iconic London hotel will welcome a special VIP guest this summer to enjoy its limited-edition afternoon teas, served in the largest private hotel garden in the capital. Teddy the Shetland is heading to London on a staycation, and will be staying in specially designed luxury stable accommodation in the grounds of The Goring for two weeks between 16-31 August as it’s ‘pony-in-residence’.

The Goring was opened in 1910 by Otto Goring, in the heart of Belgravia within strolling distance of the Royal Parks and is the only five-star luxury hotel in London still owned and run by the family that built it. The celebrity Shetland, who has an Instagram following of over 156K followers, is a family member too, and is owned by CEO Jeremy Goring’s cousins, Alice and Molly Goring.

Guests to the hotel will be able to enjoy a pony themed tea including carrot cakes and delicacies in the shapes of ponies and horseshoes, polo-mint infused scones and mini apple tarts, all served on picnic rugs in The Goring’s garden as Teddy roams free, happy for a hug or a pat if you can catch him. They can also choose to have their afternoon tea on the terrace for a more formal silver service experience.

And after a year of lockdown, the VIP equine guest is causing high anticipation at the hotel, which was granted a Royal Warrant of appointment to HM The Queen for Hospitality Services in 2013 and a Michelin Star in 2016.

“Teddy is our most famous family member and his forthcoming residency is creating enormous excitement here,” says Jeremy Goring. “Chef Richard, Fernanda our head housekeeper and all of the team are busily preparing his favourite home comforts and readying the red carpet for what will be our most important state visit for over a year.”

If afternoon tea just isn’t enough, then Teddy fans can book an overnight package to extend the enjoyment, which, in addition to the Teddy the Shetland Afternoon Tea, includes an upgrade at the time of booking, full English breakfast the next morning and a Teddy the Shetland memento to take away.
