LOCKDOWN LEADER: Manic Street Preachers

Now here’s what we call a design for life: the Manic Street Preachers are to play two special concerts in December to help the NHS.

The first gig from the South Wales band will be just for NHS workers, while the profits from the second will be sent to NHS charities. “One free show and one fundraising show seemed the best way for us to express our deep gratitude for all their heroic work,” they said in a statement. This follows a move earlier this year, when they donated £3,000 to help Pontypridd flooding relief.

"In a universal way, we've all got a stake in the NHS,” said frontman James Dean Bradfield, who has nurses in his family, and whose dad received "incredible" care from the NHS last year. "We've all got a connection to the NHS and they do such an incredibly hard job, and it has just become harder.”

The gigs will take place on the 4 and 5 December at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena. "Everyone has had work cancelled and we are no different," said Bradfield. "In a selfish way this will be something to look forward to,” whose band is saying ‘Lets go to war’ with Covid-19. “It's nice for everyone to have something to look forward to.”
